A  sworn translation  is one which is signed and stamped by a   sworn translator , converting it to an  official translation . A  legal translation , on the other hand, is the translation of legal documents. They do not need to be sworn. However, many clients request sworn legal translations, making them official.

What is a legal translation?

A legal translation is the  translation of official documents  that don’t need to be signed by a sworn translator. Their content however, is legal. It may subsequently be signed, sealed and apostilled and thus become a sworn translation. Whenever we need to translate content of legal or official nature we will need a  legal translator.  They are specialized in both law and translation and can master the legal contents of both the source and target language. The difference between a legal and a  sworn translation  is that the latter is signed, stamped and apostilled by a sworn translator, who is recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Sworn translations are issued on paper and are usually stamped. They are accompanied by a copy of the original document, which is also dully stamped, signed and dated.  Sworn translations  are also valid if they are scanned and presented digitally. They must be presented to those official bodies who only accept sworn translations.
